HOMOEOPATHY
Dr.Christian Samuel F.Hahneman, the illustrious founder of the Homoeopathic system of therapeutics, was born in Meissen, near Dresden, in erstwhile East Germany (G.D.R) on the 10thday of April; 1755.His father was a porcelain painter who did not have sufficient means to pay for his son’s education. With great hardship and greater determination. Samuel Hahnemann became master of as many as thirteen different languages of the world, and obtained his M.D. degree at the age of twenty-four. “He was a great chemist, a mineralogist, a botanist and an experienced practical physician an all-round scientific man.” He was for sometimes the Chief Surgeon in a hospital at Dresden. He realized that the system of treatment in vogue at that time was not only inefficacious but pernicious in its effects, and discontinued his practice on that ground, and began to earn his livelihood by translation of scientific works. He knew 13 languages but not Sanskrit, otherwise he would have originated his scientific work in comparison with Ayurveda.
First of all he studied the total physical, emotional and mental effects of medicines on healthy human beings. He used healthy persons so that the pure effects of the medicine itself could be known separately from the symptoms of illness. After studying the effects of many medicines on the health, he applied this knowledge to Th sick. In order to do so, he had to study the total physical, emotional and mental signs and symptoms of each patient. Hahnemann applied this knowledge of the effects of a medicine on the healthy and the signs and symptoms of a sick person in an equally inclusive manner. He did not regard the patient’s signs and symptoms as necessarily bad and therefore to be removed. Instead, Hahemann believed that these signs and symptoms did not represent his illness, but rather the reaction of the person to his illness. The illness and the reaction to the illness are separate. Therefore, reasoned Hahnemann, the physician should administer that medicine to the patient which produced in a healthy person signs and symptoms similar to those of the patient. In this manner the natural attempts of the body to heal itself would be reinforced, rather than neutralized or interfered with.
Hahnemann gave this system of treatment of illness with medicines which produced in the healthy, symptoms similar to those of the sick, the name of “Homoeopathy”. This science is based on the principle of “Similius Curenteur” which means “LET LIKES BE CURED BY LIKES”. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann also made it known that sufferings and ailments of humanity, particularly the chronic diseases, are due to three Miasms prevailing all over the world, namely, Psora, Sycosis and Syphilis. In 1790, Samuel Hahnemann named his new method of treatment ‘Homoeopathy’ from two Greek words, ‘Homios’ meaning Like and ‘Pathos’ meaning Suffering.
Hahnemann writes … “Homeopathy consists in the administration: not of infinitesimal does as sometimes suppose, but “of a remedy for a diseases, which, if given to a person in health, can produce similar (not identical) symptoms to the diseases – “Similia Similbus Curentur.” (Likes by likes are cured). You are palsied – You use Strychnine, which produces palsy. You are griped – you use colocynth, which gripes you are sick. You use Antimony that produces sickness. You have asthma – you use Ipecacuanha that produces asthma. You are relaxed in bowels – you use Rhubarb which relaxes the bowels. This is the law of likes curing likes. Refute these truths if you can, by showing a still more efficacious, certain, and agreeable method than mine, refute them not by words, of which we had already too many, but if experience should prove to you as it has done to me, that my method is the best to make use of to save your fellow creature, and give the glory to God.”
In other medicines, material doses are administered, while in this science, dynamic action is received with absolutely minimum doses of medicine. One drop of any medicine mixed briskly and thoroughly with 99 parts of alcohol and given ten successions becomes the first potency. Afterwards, one drop from the first potency is mixed again with 99 parts of alcohol and again given ten successions to give the second potency. Same way, the process is continued until the desired potency is reached. Above 13 potency is far lesser than one atom! Even 30 potency is much lesser than an atom.
